Predator Fever
I still vividly remember that this shoe was the one that sparked my love for soccer. It was the pair for which I would pester my mom relentlessly, eagerly wanting the red tongue attached with Beckham-style elastics. Finally, we can confidently say that the true Predators have made a comeback. After using Alexander Arnold as a teaser, Adidas allows us to dream and takes us back in time with a truly elegant soccer cleat.
Today, Adidas unveils the new Predator 30, a special edition celebrating three decades of innovation for the most legendary football boot series. Originally launched in 1994, the Predator has redefined an entire industry and forever changed football and its culture.
Featuring a completely new silhouette that projects into the future of this boot model, the Predator 30 reintroduces one of the most celebrated features of its predecessors: the tongue.
The iconic tongue has been the hallmark of goal scorers for an entire generation of football enthusiasts—a feature that stands out on fan-favorite models such as the Predator Mania, Precision, and PowerSwerve. Now, the Predator returns with a softer feel, incorporated rubber fins, and a tongue that allows players to customize the boot as they wish.
The Predator 30 is rich in design choices paying homage to the history of this boot model, including the iconic 'Eyes' Predator logo appearing on the bottom of the tongue. The color scheme takes inspiration from the classic red, black, and white of the early versions but with a more luxurious burgundy to emphasize the 30 years of franchise history. Only 1994 pairs will be available, referencing the year of the first Predator boot release. Each pair comes in a high-quality presentation box containing a gold commemorative plaque illustrated with some of the most famous Predator models in history.
The new boot is not just a return to the past. Using feedback from adidas consumers and athletes, the Predator 30 has undergone a series of updates designed to provide the wearer with maximum security in front of the goal, serving as a precursor to an entirely new Predator model set to launch in January 2024.
Sam Handy, VP Product and Design at adidas Football, stated, "The introduction of the Predator franchise completely changed the way we think about football boots, both in terms of performance and marketing. Over the years, they have been worn by some of the greatest players of their generations, in some of the most historic moments of the game."
"Reflecting on the last three decades of innovations, we felt it was the right time to reset and draw inspiration from the elements that first made the Predator so popular: its look, the sensations it is capable of delivering, and its uniqueness for goal-scoring. We are confident that fans of the early Predator models will be delighted to see the return of the famous tongue, and we hope new fans enjoy showcasing it on the field for the first time."
