80s Revival
In a bold move that sets them apart from competitors, Adidas has once again demonstrated their knack for connecting with culture through their latest offering. While Nike has been putting its efforts into the Women's World Cup, successfully propelling the women's game forward, Adidas has taken center stage this year with a series of striking jersey releases that consistently hit the mark, each showcasing a unique feature.
The unveiling of the new Arsenal third kit for the 2023/24 season marks yet another triumph for Adidas. Combining cutting-edge performance technology with an iconic '80s design, this kit pays homage to the heritage of the game while meeting the demands of today's athletes.
The classic '82/'83 away jersey design is reborn with a modern twist, incorporating minimalist and contemporary elements such as the cannon emblem and Henley-style collar. A blend of mineral green base, collegiate-style shoulder accents, and the subtle branding of sponsors in off-white creates a stylish ensemble that effortlessly bridges the gap between fans on the stands and players on the field.
The launch video, which brings a continental flair to the streets of Islington, features prominent figures like Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Leah Williamson. This film accompanies the kit's release, coinciding with the ambitions of both the men's and women's teams in the upcoming UEFA Champions League.
Inigo Turner, Design Director of adidas Football Apparel, explained the inspiration behind the kit: "Drawing from Arsenal's rich kit history, looking to the past always sparks creativity when designing for today's fans. The iconic green away jersey from the 1982/83 season was a one-of-a-kind piece, and this modern expression of that classic seamlessly blends fashion and football.
The incorporation of adidas' latest performance innovations ensures athletes receive the necessary support for the demands of modern play. The on-field version of the jersey boasts HEAT.RDY technology, optimized for maximal player comfort during high-stakes matches. Meanwhile, the replica version is equipped with AEROREADY technology, utilizing moisture-wicking and breathable materials to keep players dry.
Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability, both versions of the jersey are crafted entirely from recycled materials. As part of adidas' effort to combat plastic waste, the brand is on track to replace virgin polyester with recycled polyester in its products by the end of 2024.
The Arsenal men's and women's teams will proudly sport the new kit in Premier League matches, Women's Super League fixtures, national cup competitions, and the UEFA Champions League. The Arsenal Women's team will debut the kit on October 22nd against Bristol City in the Women's Super League. Depending on the draw, the men's team could wear it as early as September when returning to the UEFA Champions League.
Available in men's, women's, and youth sizes, the Arsenal 2023/24 third kit can be purchased starting from August 18th at various locations, including adidas stores, Arsenal Direct, select retail outlets, and online at adidas.it. Adidas once again showcases their ability to seamlessly blend nostalgia with innovation, creating a kit that captures the essence of both sport and style.
