El Impacto de Levante
Playing football is much more than two teams attempting to score goals in front of thousands of people and then going home to forget about what was on display for the last 90+ minutes. Football is about attempting to make an impact on fans who will remember the who, what, when, where and why. Last week, on 16 October, LaLiga 2 side Levante UD did just that.
During their 1-0 victory over Racing Ferrol, Levante UD sported a very special kit with bold, vulnerable, impactful imagery. Levante UD, sponsored by Macron Football, donned a unique kit design, which featured a mastectomy, in support of Breast Cancer Day (16 October) and Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October).
This may seem like a small gesture, but in the grand scheme of things, it is a massive display of respect shown by Levante UD. Unfortunately, it is reported that there are roughly 35,000 new cases of women who suffer from best cancer every year in Spain, and breast cancer is the third leading cause of death from cancer in women and men in Spain.
Bringing awareness to social issues through the means of football is a commendable act. It speaks volumes of all individuals and parties involved. At its core, football is a sport for everyone and should be used as a voice for anyone who may be underserved, underrepresented, and under-resourced. The onetwo team tips our hats off to the players, coaches, and staff of Levante UD for shedding light on what can be an extremely dark experience for thousands.
Taking action is a vital step in the process of progression. For anyone who has been affected by breast cancer, directly or indirectly, like Levante UD, onetwo is with you. Know that you are not alone and that you are being supported inside and outside of the football world.
